Website Design for Charities

Disability organisations and charities have different needs than many businesses. They often have not only limited staff, but limited financial resources, while having a high demand for the services they provide. It is important to understand not only the financial situations of disability organisations, but also have knowledge and understanding of the issues they face, and the issues of those they serve. We understand these issues which is why we work to create websites for disability organisations and charities, to fit their needs and their budgets.
We have developed and designed web sites for the following charities:
Hertfordshire Action on Disability
DEMAND
Hertfordshire Wheelchair Centre
Here are some of the things that may be beneficial for your organisation's web site:
All Text Site Version
Websites, like buildings, need to be accessible for people with disabilities. Having an all text version of a website can be beneficial for people who use screen readers and other non graphic browsers.
Classified Ads
A classified ad section for your website can be used for people to buy and
sell used medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, bathroom equipment
and much more.
An ad section can be set up to notify you anytime there is an ad posted, and
you would have an administration section to allow you to edit or delete ads
in the event of inappropriate ads placed.
Online Applications
If your organization requires an application to be filled out prior to providing services, an online application could beneficial to you. Once the application is online, the visitor can fill out the information online and submit it to you. You will then receive an email with their information. The application can also be placed on the website in Portable Document Format (PDF) which the viewer can download, print the application, fill it out and mail it to you.
Calendars
List your organisations events, activities, and meetings on an online calendar.
Email Lists
Email lists are perfect for several things. They are a list of people who have signed up for your list, who receives the emails that are sent to the list. Email lists can be set up so only the moderators(s) can send out emails for notifications of issues or events. It can also be set up so that any list member can send emails that go out to everyone. This method could be used to get ideas or suggestions from your group. They are also ideal as a support group which all the members can contribute.
Fund Raising
If your organization has fundraising activities, it can be listed on a page in your website for fundraising. If you are selling items, for example teddy bears, a small e-commerce store can be set up on your site that allows visitors to purchase your items for sale.
Newsletters
Newsletters lists can be a great time and money saver. By putting your newsletter
online and/or sending them out to an email list, it saves you not only time
in getting hard copies ready for mailing, it also saves in printing and postage
costs.
